The village of Buffalo was platted in the year 1856 and eventually became the Wright County seat. It lies between the shores of two major recreational lakes, Buffalo Lake and Lake Pulaski. Agriculture has remained its economic mainstay backed by business and industry.
Buffalo is a thriving, progressive community. During the past 150 years, Buffalo has experienced enormous growth and development. Located just 35 minutes from the Twin Cities and St. Cloud, Buffalo has approximately 16,000 residents and offers residents and guests a perfect mixture of modern conveniences and small town life.

In addition to maintaining the above, Buffalo has its own electric distribution system serving 6,600 homes and businesses. They maintain five regional parks and 19 neighborhood parks. Buffalo has a full-time Police Department and volunteer Fire Department, two sheets of ice and banquet space at the Buffalo Civic Center, two off-sale municipal liquor stores and a municipal airport. Wild Marsh is a beautiful 18-hole championship golf course operated by the City. Tavern at Wild Marsh is a privately operated restaurant and banquet center. Citizens may also choose Buffalo’s wireless Internet known as Quantum Connect.

The largest employer is the Buffalo Hanover Montrose School District with over 750 employees. Next would be Allina Hospital with approximately 500.
